Beijing 4th of July EARTHQUAKE!!!!
Right around noon on July 4, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake hit Beijing. The epicenter was pinpointed about an hour south of the city, according to Chinese officials.I felt my table and office door shake, and quickly asked around if anyone felt it. It seems like no one is familiar with earthquakes around these here parts, as everyone laughed off my questions. Being a San Fran native (2 years count, right?), I'm ready to hide out under my table with my foil blanket and Clif bar. Add the fact that I live in a hive of 17+ story apartment buildings, and I have good reason to be on alert.
And guess who had the last laugh?

Here's a quick bulletin from the AP:
BEIJING -- A medium-sized earthquake shook northern China on Tuesday, but no injuries were immediately reported, state television said.
State television said the quake was a magnitude 5.1 and struck around noon in an area of populous Hebei province, which surrounds the capital Beijing. The U.S. Geological Survey put the magnitude at 4.9 and said the epicenter was on the Beijing-Hebei border, about 55 miles south of the capital.
The quake could be felt in Beijing but there were no immediate reports of damage.
Super-dee-duper. Hey, M, glad you miss out on all the earthquakes huh? *end*
