CULINARY CRAZIES: Or, Chickenheads

Beijing has muggy summers punctuated by scary thunderstorms. One night, we got caught in one of these mini-monsoons and ran to the nearest restaurant. It had wet floors and was hazy with cigarette smoke, but that's just what to expect with a small neighborhood restaurant with rain-stranded customers.

We ordered three dishes, one of which was a hand-pulled chicken stew. I had no idea they meant the whole chicken though.

M almost puked his guts out and quickly asked for a check. I groaned for about 15 seconds, then got over it and grabbed the cameraphone to snap this shot.

The funny part is that it took a couple of tries. The top part of the head had that slippery rubber texture that the chopsticks could not grip.

But check out how peaceful Mr. Chicken looks. The stew must be good for sleeping. *fin*
